Last updated October 10, 2026. Kickstand is a household app: parents set up their children's daily routines and rewards, and children check tasks off on a family device or their own phone. Parents manage everything; children only tap.
What we collect
- Parents: email address (to sign in), the name you choose, a hash of your parent PIN (never the PIN itself), and whether you want the weekly email.
- Children: the first name and optional photo a parent enters, their routines and tasks, which tasks were done and when, their rewards (tokens, allowance and reward requests) and the look they picked for their checklist. Children do not have accounts and never enter an email address.
- Household: its name, timezone and, if a parent chooses one, a town for the weather (stored as the town's name and approximate coordinates).
- Devices: the name and type of each device in the household, when the app was opened and closed on it, and which tasks were checked off there, so parents can see how the checklist is used.
- Dash and voice setup (parents only): what a parent writes or says to Dash, photos they send it, Dash's replies, and the length and cost of voice setup calls.
- Diagnostics and feedback: error reports from the app (the error, app version and device type) and any feedback a parent sends.
Who handles it
- Supabase stores the database and runs email sign-in.
- Fly.io hosts the Kickstand server.
- OpenAI runs Dash for parents: their messages and photos, transcription of voice messages, and safety checks on Dash's words. OpenAI's API does not use this data to train its models.
- Vapi runs voice setup calls for parents who choose them.
- Resend delivers sign-in codes and the weekly email.
- Open-Meteo provides weather for the town's coordinates; it receives no personal details.
Kid mode sends nothing to these services except to save the child's own check-offs. Children never talk to Dash or any AI, and read-aloud runs on the device. There are no ads, no advertising or analytics trackers, and we never sell data.
Who can see it
Only the adults in your household, devices they have set up, and assistants they connect with an access token (which they can revoke at any time). Another household can never see your family's data.
Keeping, exporting and deleting data
Data is kept while your household uses the app. A parent can download all of the household's data in Parent tools, Settings, Download our data, and delete their account in Settings, Delete account, or on the web at /delete-account. If they are the only parent, the whole household is deleted with it: every child, task, reward record, photo, Dash conversation and device. A parent can also remove a child's photo or archive a child at any time, and starting a new chat with Dash deletes the Dash conversation and its photos. Backups are kept for 30 days and then deleted.
Children
The app is used by children but managed by parents. Parents provide and control all information about their children, and can review, change, export or delete it in the app. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.
